Little white wormsQ: We have 2 cats that stay in the house. i've noticed that one has worms. i'm sure the other does too since they share a litter box. my question is, what type of worms are they? and how do we get rid of them. we're also getting lots of fleas? what flea treatment do you recommend? thank you, carol A: The cats probably have tapeworm which can be treated using tape worm tablets for felines. you should use a product like frontline plus on your cats for flea control. you can also use a capstar tablet to kill the adult fleas. you should also treat the house for fleas as well.

Flies biting dog's earsQ: I have a percription called "expar" which i think is a topical liquid. it smells and appears to be oily. could i use this on my dog's ears? the flies are biting them and they are getting sores and scabby. A: The product expar is recommended for use on cattle and therefore we cannot suggest that you use it on a dog's ear.
Danger of too strong medicationQ: Hi doctor, i am very glad to see this catagory added. i got my 15 lb. cat from a petsmart and plan to keep him indoors. the ladies there told me that advantage and frontline was way too strong in their opinion and could cause seizures or worse. they said applying a topical once every 3 months (a dab) behind the neck is sufficient. all of the meds i see seem to require the entire tube, as often as once a month! what product are they recommending that is milder that only has to be applied every 3 months? also, the prices here seem to be higher than the stores' brands. A: I dont think products over the counter are safer than front line or advantage. i would stick with those. either is fine. frontline can be applied every 3 months in indoor cats for flea prevention
