Household cleaning products
Q: I recently received an e-mail warning that swiffer wet jet used "anti-freeze" in their cleaning solution and that dogs and cats could develop necropsy of the liver by just licking their paws. is there any truth to this?
A: According to the manufacturer this is a false rumor. they claim there is no antifreeze in their product. they do caution, however, that pets stay off the newly mopped floor until the floor is dry.

Corneal ulcers
Q: I have 2 cocker spaniels, both have allergies, hot spots and one has scratched at her eyes and the vet said she developed a corneal ulcer for which antibiotics for the eyes have been prescribed. the medicine clears it up, but it comes back. any other natural medicines to use or advice? thank you
A: You may want to try an omega 3 fatty acid product---check with petmeds for availability. sometimes flax seed oil is a nice supplement that can help over time|at a dose of 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight added to food daily. also make sure she is on an all natural diet, or you may want to try a hypoallergenic diet to make sure food is not involved. also consider a thyroid blood test as a low thyroid is also common in this breed.

What dosage to buy
Q: My oldest son is allergic to flea bites so we keep our indoor cats completely free of insects. we just got a new puppy fully equipted with ticks. we are planning to take her camping in a few weeks and don't know what to get. she is just over 9 pounds at 9 weeks old and going to be a big dog. around 65 pounds. what type of product should we get for her and what dosage to look for, the current weight or the weight she will become?
A: Any product you use would have to be for her current weight at the time of application. we suggest using frontline plus and a tick collar if you are going into an area known to have ticks.
Shop for: tick, frontline plus, frontline

Vomitting
Q: I administered frontline to my dongs and my little chiwawa is now vomiting the frontline was given by my vet and i followed all instructions my vets office is not opened and i need to know what to do for my dog is there anything i can give him thank you anna
A: You dog should have a veterinary intervention as soon as possible.
Shop for: frontline

Why do i need to use monthly flea preventative?
Q: Why do i need to use monthly flea preventative?
A: Using a monthly treatment to prevent flea infestation is much easier than, and in many cases much less expensive than, the effort required to control and eliminate an already existing flea problem in terms of time and effort.

Shedding
Q: I have just brought a ten week old pug puppy home. i was told by a friend that pugs tend to shed quite a bit. i also was told that there is some type of medicine that helps reduce the shedding. if so what is it and is my puppy to young to take it.
A: There is a tablet called shed no more and there is a product called miracle coat shed reducer spray.

Ferrets and cats
Q: I have 2 ferrets and 2 cats, all of which are inside pets, and have fleas. if i were to choose between frontline and advantage, which on would be better, or should i choose 1 for the cats and the other for the ferrets?
A: I only use pyethrin sprays on ferrets or pyethrin shampoos as i dont believe advantage or front line is labelled for use in this species. either product is fine for dog or cat
Shop for: advantage, frontline

Comparison chart of flea & tick meds
Q: Checking your comparison chart, it seems that frontline plus offers the most protection - more than frontline top spot. however, when i entered my dogs' pounds (2 dachshunds - 9 and 13 lbs) my choices did not include frontline plus, only frontline top spot. is frontline plus not offered for this weight dog?
A: Frontline plus has a product for 11 to 22 lbs. the frontline topspot has a product for 2 to 22 lbs.
Shop for: frontline, frontline plus, frontline topspot
